Kitson Trophy

The Kitson Trophy is in honour of our late president Brian Kitson, it is hoped that this will find the best all round Newfoundland in Show, Water and Draught work as Brian was passionate about Newfoundlands showing and working.

Awarding of the Kitson Trophy

The trophy will be regarded as an annual points trophy to the dog gaining the most points, providing they satisfy the qualifying criteria.

Awarding of points

Points will be awarded as follows:
Water
Section A = 1 point, Section B = 2 points, Section C = 3 points, Section D = 4 points, Section E = 5 points

Multi pass = + 1 point (claimed in the year the multi pass is achieved)

Draught
Beginners Level* = 1 point, Level 1= 2 points, Level 2 = 3 points, Level 3 = 4 points, Level 4 = 5 points

Multi pass = + 1 point (claimed in the year the multi pass is achieved)

(* Beginners level will be introduced with the proposed new regs)

Show (Open or Championship NNC, NC and SNC)
5th place = 1 point, 4th place = 2 points, 3rd place = 3 points, 2nd place = 4 points, 1st place = 5 points

BDinS = + 1 point, BBinS = + 1 point, BUnS = + 1 point, BinS = + 1 point, BBrown in S = + 1 point

Calculation of Points
Minimum points in any discipline would be 3 and maximum would be 20.

Minimum points cannot be achieved by only completing passes in the lowest level of any of the three disciplines, there must be a progression shown,

eg...... Water A + B = 3

    Draught Beginners + level 1 = 3

    Show 5th + 4th = 3 ( can be in any order)

If more than 20 points are reached in any discipline then they would only be counted in the event of a tie to decide a winner.

Rules & Regulations

  1. Only members of the Northern Newfoundland Club are eligible to be considered for the trophy.
  2. Points will be counted annually between one AGM of the Northern Newfoundland Club to the next.
  3. Members wishing to enter their dog for the trophy will need to apply in writing to the Main Committee at least 7 days before the AGM in order for points to be verified.
  4. Points may be gained at any or all certified Northern Newfoundland Club events.
  5. A minimum of 3 points must be gained in all three disciplines.
  6. In the case of Water tests where a dog has been entered in more than one test in one day, only the points from the highest test passed that day will qualify for the trophy.
  7. The winner of the trophy will be announced and presented at the Northern Newfoundland Club AGM. Should you be unable to attend a nominee can be appointed to accept the trophy.
  8. The rules and regulations for awarding the Kitson Trophy are determined by the Northern Newfoundland Club and may be amended at any time. Any such amendment will be published in the Northern Newfoundland Club news letter, NewfLetter and on this web site.
